Rajasthan Energy Development Agency is the State Nodal Agency for promoting & developing Non-conventional Energy Sources and conservation of energy.
On 21.1.85 the Agency was registered under Societies Act. It co-ordinates the programme activities between various programme on Non-conventional Energy Sources and the Society. It is also engaged in creating awareness among people towards conservation of energy, protection of environment degradation through demonstration projects and other methods.
The Agency is headed by a Chief Executive & Director at the State H.Q. Jaipur who is assisted by an Additional Chief Executive and a Senior Executive in addition to other staff. There are seventeen offices of the Agency in the State headed by a Project Officer of Assistant Engineer rank. These Project Officers handle activities connected with non-conventional energy sources in all the 32 districts.
Rural Electrification Programme SPV Street Lights
Solar Street Light is a device for illuminating streets through solar energy collected during the day time in a battery through a solar module. it is very useful for remote villages where conventional electricity is yet to reach. It has a 11 watt CFL which lights up in the evening and goes off in the morning automatically.
In the REDA's RE programme of 2002-03 cost of such a street light is Rs. 20,000/- including installation charges of Rs. 500/-. However maintenance charges @ Rs. 300 per year for 3rd to 5th year is extra frist two years being of maintenance charge free. For community use Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES) Govt. of India provides 50% of supply cost as subsidy and 25% of supply cost is subsidy by the State Govt.
SPV Domestic or Home Lighting Systems
In this scheme in the village where at least 10 beneficiaries are available, this device is provided with subsidy from MNES @ Rs. 5500/- per system. In this device there are two light points of 9 W CFL each which can provide light for 4 hours daily. It's cost in REDA's RE Programme 2002-03 is about Rs. 12000/- (It varies between different Revenue Divisions. For example in Jaipur & Kota Division it is Rs. 12062.50, in Jodhpur & Bikaner it is Rs. 11350 and in Ajmer & Udaipur it is Rs. 11500 including installation charges.).
Under REDA's RE programme as of now about 36000 system have been distributed in about 1650 villages.
